There was purchased the 47″ version on this TV ([.on sales LG Infinia 55LW5600 55-Inch Cinema 3D 1080p 120 Hz .. ]) and were absolutely blown away by the image excellent… it is PRISTINE! (Easily a 5-star+ established.) In fact, we were so pleased with that unit that we thought we may want just a a little bit larger TV instead. So, we ordered the 55″ model and planned on coming back again the 47″ one. Well, amazingly, we’re sending back the 55″ TV. The image is clearly less pristine (grainy/pixelated/dull – even on the highest resolution blu-ray articles… and even more astonishingly, the 3D was making us sick. (So strange, since we totally LOVED the 3D around the 47″ model.) Too bad… because we were really enthusiastic about the larger size… but we’d much favour quality over quantity.
Interestingly, it was my better half (who claims to not notice the “soap opera effect” in the new LCDs) who has been most disturbed by the high quality loss. It was glaringly apparent to her (since it was to me… though I didn’t wish to admit it, since I really wanted the larger model). If my wife realises the difference, trust me… it’s there. I later did a side-by-side comparison relating to the 55LW5600 and the 47LW5600 which usually confirmed our suspicions.
Here’s a little much more detail:
IMAGE QUALITY:
On this 55″ model, image quality of even the greatest resolution blu-ray discs seemed to be noticably less sharp, more pixelated/grainy, and overall just additional dull. I played extensively using the settings but could certainly not overcome these issues.
Alternatively, images on the 47″ design and crisp and STUNNING. My hunch is that this resolution on both products is identical, but it is spread on the greater screen area within the larger unit, resulting in the capability to more easily see picture flaws. I have not found specs to confirm this, though. We sit about 10-12 feet clear of the TV, and we did notice a significant improvement in our perception with the image quality when transferring back about 5 legs. But, the arrangement of our room won’t allow us to sit this distance in the TV… so the 47″ could be the obvious choice for us.
I would say that you need to not consider the 55″ version if you intend on sitting deeper than 12 feet towards TV. Further out than that, you may have a greater experience.
3D EFFECT:
I also learned in which 3D can (within certain circumstances) help make us sick. Strange, because we’ve always enjoyed 3D inside theater… and we absolutely LOVED 3D within the 47″ version of this TV. But, on this 55″ type, there were some unusual fluttering effects, especially in fast-motion movie. We also noticed some type of strange boxy/pixelated effect during quick scene changes, or when going from bright to dark (and vice versa) clips.
None of these 3D issues occurred with the 47″ version. In fact, not only was the image impeccable, but the 3D searched absolutely gorgeous (and got fully HD quality without any noticeable resolution loss).
So, if you’re debating (similar to we did) about whether to search with LG’s 47″ model (47LW5600), or to go just a little larger with the 55″ type… I’d suggest sticking while using 47″ TV unless you will be sitting a fairly significant distance far from the set…...
